The Power of One

The Power of One

Blind Helen Keller said, "I am only one, but still I am one; I cannot do everything,
but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do the something I can do."

And as the unknown author said:

One SONG can spark a moment,
One FLOWER can wake the dream,
One TREE can start a forest,
One BIRD can herald spring,
One SMILE begins a friendship,
One HANDCLASP lifts a sou,
One STAR can guide a ship at sea,
One WORD can frame the gal,
One VOTE can change a nation,
One SUNBEAM lights a room,
One CANDLE wipes out darkness,
One LAUGH will conquer gloom,
One STEP must start each journey,
One WORD must start a prayer,
One HOPE will raise our spirits,
One TOUCH can show you care,
One VOICE can speak with wisdom,
One HEART can know what is true,
One LIFE can make a difference.

May that life be yours.

Remember, "that all the darkness in the world cannot put out the light of one small candle."

More About to Know and Not to Do

To Know and Not to Do

Here's a riddle I recently read: "Five frogs sat on a log. Four decided to jump off. How many frogs left on the log?"

What was your answer to the riddle above? Was it one, two, three, or four?

According to the person who posed the question the answer is five.

"How come?" you ask.

It's because there is a world of difference between deciding and doing.

Loneliness ... The Sad Affair

Loneliness ...
The Sad Affair

Ron Clarke of Tasmania shared how "one of England's
great poets, Rupert Brooke, who died in 1915, wrote the following note: 'I felt
a trifle lonely before I left Liverpool; everybody seemed to have people to see
them off. So I went back on shore and found a dirty little boy who was
unoccupied who said his name was William. "Will you wave to me if I give you
sixpence, William?" I said. "Why, yes," said William. So I gave him sixpence and
went on board. When the time came he leaned over the railing on the landing
stage and waved. So I got my six-pennyworth and my farewell—thanks to William.'"

How very sad. Karen and Richard Carpenter in one of their popular songs
some time ago sang with deep meaning, "Loneliness, it's such a sad affair … and
I can hardly wait to be with you again." How true these words were for Karen who
starved herself to death because of her own loneliness and the feeling of not
being loved. Being popular and in the limelight can never compensate for the
need for close, loving relationships. I believe it was Janis Joplin, another
popular vocalist, who said that the only time she felt okay was when she was on
stage. The rest of the time she suffered from deep loneliness. She, too, took
her own life with an overdose of Heroin in 1970. Even though "her career lasted
only a few years, she has been hailed as the greatest white female blues singer
who ever lived."

Think, too, of the elderly whose friends have passed
on—the divorced, those never married, widows and widowers, numerous children,
teens, and their parents living in unhappy homes, spouses who are abused and
have nowhere to turn for help, military personnel and their families separated
at times of war … the homeless—the list of lonely people is endless. Loneliness
is indeed a plague of modern society. It is a very sad affair.

The fact
is we were created for relationships and while it may not be the most desirable,
we can live without romantic love, but we cannot live healthily without close,
loving relationships with at least one trustworthy friend.

Perhaps the
most pathetic loneliness of all is to feel separated and isolated from God.

For many of life's problems there are no simple, quick-fix
answers. It can take a while to gain a sense of belonging, but I encourage
you to hang in, and especially to join a small and accepting group.

Dear God ...

how I thank you ...

that you have created mankind ...

for relationships ...

and today ...

I especially pray ...

for the lonely ...

who are everywhere ...

Please help me ...

to be an encourager ...

and supporter ...

of at least one lonely person ...

or family ...

Thank you for hearing and answering my prayerz

Pakistan Media

The article below is an excellent example of taking the media to task for ignoring the real stories that are affecting our lives and instead hawking wild conspiracy theories and unfounded rumors. I suppose with our TV anchors so comfortable with their fame and riches, they don’t even see the real suffering of the people.

LageRahoMediaBhai

by Sadiq Saleem The News

On Monday, November 2, thirty-five innocent Pakistanis lost their lives to a terrorist attack. These were ordinary people, standing in line at a bank to receive their monthly salary. They must have gone there with plans of spending that money on their parents, wives, children, brothers and sisters. But for the Pakistani media, especially the TV anchors who have now become the arbiters of what is important and what is not, the death of these poor people was not important. With their usual cast of characters from —Jamaat-e-Islami to Imran Khan to the two Muslim Leagues— the electronic media that day was exclusively focused on the so-called NRO issue.

Although the PPP has defused the matter by withdrawing the ordinance from Parliament, there is something artificial about the manner in which the matter of the NRO was made the primary focus of national discussion. The NRO issue took over from debate over the Kerry Lugar Bill, which also died its natural death. Those in the media who considered the Kerry-Lugar Bill a matter of national sovereignty have not even asked the PML-N or PML-Q to bring their own
resolutions in the National Assembly on the matter.

Now that Hillary Clinton has spoken, the two Muslims Leagues would not dare condemn the US through a resolution in Parliament. The purpose of the fuss over the bill, like the NRO non-debate, was to undermine the Zardari presidency. The Pakistani military is fighting the battle for the country’s survival in Waziristan.

For years at least some of our anchors have claimed that the Mehsud militants are backed by foreign enemies of Pakistan. But neither the war in Waziristan nor the terrorist attacks in Rawalpindi have received the kind of attention that befits them. For the overzealous TV anchors, the real issue is how to embarrass President Zardari. Some of them claim they have the establishments backing in doing so.

Those striving for a Constitutional knockout of President Zardari need to reconsider whether they will accomplish anything even if they succeed. The first consequence of such a knockout would be to give the PPP and the Bhutto-Zardari family the mantle of victimhood once again. After the initial grumbling is over, the People’s Party will most likely rally round the family that has given the greatest sacrifices for it. Even if Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani becomes part of the knockout plan, which is highly unlikely, he would be reduced to the same position as Farooq Leghari was within months of his action against Benazir Bhutto in 1996.

If the fingerprints of the establishment are found in President Zardari’s decapitation, as the anti-Zardari anchors and columnists claim, it would revive in all likelihood the anti-establishment polarization that the military sought to end by withdrawing from politics after the eclipse of General Pervez Musharraf. In any case, why should the establishment become part of an
anti-Zardari game plan if all it would do is bring Mr Nawaz Sharif to power?

The issue of civil-military relations will certainly not be resolved to the establishments satisfaction because if Mr. Nawaz Sharif rises to power with the weakening of a Zardari-led PPP then he is unlikely to be more deferential to GHQ.

Since the unfortunate era of General Ziaul Haq the Pakistani establishment has had a pro-Jihad faction that operates politically through the media and various political actors. These people did not respect General Asif Nawaz, General Abdul Waheed, or General Jehangir Karamat. General Pervez Musharraf pleased them by championing adventurism in Kargil but lost their backing in the post-9/11 context. Now, too, it is not General Ashfaq Kayani who wants an army (or establishment) role in politics. It is the beneficiaries of Jihad Inc., including the many media figures beholden to the Jihadis, who want to shoot at a liberal government using the establishments shoulder.

If Pakistan will gain nothing from upsetting the applecart, why are some people so insistent on continuing to distract the nation from fighting terrorism and from sympathizing with terrorist victims? Why not allow the Parliament to decide matters even if it is with a single vote? Why don’t the TV anchors ask Imran Khan how he can judge the government’s actions and claim to speak for the people without being elected? Why is every initiative of PML-N a media initiative and never brought to the elected chambers? Is it not the purpose of democracy to find a way to get past issues instead of getting bogged down by them?

The media, especially its electronic manifestation, seems like a bunch of quacks (fake doctors) that keep generating campaign after campaign against someone they dislike (President Zardari). It is time the people fight back and say let there be some sanity in the country. Let priorities be priorities.

Like the title of the Hindi movie Lagay Raho Munna Bhai, we need to learn to ignore the TV anchors and say Lagay Raho media Bhai and pay attention to the lives of people instead of the artificial politics of talk shows. If the talk show crowd has evidence of corruption, let them take it to the independent judiciary, which they claim they got restored. If there is an issue that requires Parliamentary attention, let Parliament vote on it. It is time for real action, not media campaigns.

For twenty-four hours after a tragedy like the Rawalpindi terrorist attack, the nation should be allowed to grieve and sympathize with the victims. The media and the establishment some anchors so frequently quote should give the people a break.

Nawaz Shareef - Angel Or Devil pr Devlish Angel ?

In the hearing on NRO cases, NAB admitted that it
had spent over PKR 2 billion on investigations against Benazir Bhutto and Asif
Ali Zardari. Despite spending this hefty amount, nothing could be proved against
the two. In this series, I am trying to highlight the allegations on Right-wing
politicians, bureaucrats, army officials and media personnel. For the sake of
justice, I want these allegations to be thoroughly investigated with an
equivalent inflation adjusted amount spent and brought to logical conclusion. In
the spirit of investigation against BB and AZ, I would suggest that the fairness
demands that the prosecution team for these allegations be chosen by PPP
leadership to have a level playing field.

Character of a Corrupt and Feudal Politician –
Abhi tu main jawan hoon

Nawaz Sharif:

Here is a list of allegations of corruption
against Nawaz Sharif – in a five clip series.

Nawaz Sharif had two convictions against him, one
is a case of hijacking and treason and the other of corruption in purchase of a
helicopter. He had a number of corruption cases pending against him and many
inquiries under way. As a result of the presidential pardon given in response to
written request by Nawaz Sharif and other family members, the inquiries were
stopped, all cases were dropped and sentences were removed as a result of a
presidential pardon.

Nawaz Sharif Presidential Pardon

Nawaz Sharif himself acknowledged the deal (worse
than any NRO) – Express Link. The guarantors intervened to force Nawaz Sharif
to stick to the deal till Benazir Bhutto and NRO paved way for his return (Dawn Link).

Ironically, without
probing into the detail of the allegations, investigations dropped and
convictions, Supreme Court in a haste set aside all allegations against Nawaz
Sharif. Unlike NRO, it did not question non-probing of Federal and Provincial
Govts. on political grounds.

Another shameful allegation against Mr. Sharif is
his involvement in attack on Supreme Court.

Mr. Sharif and his cronies say that Musharraf
could not find anything against him in his 9 years. It’s a blatant lie because
under Mr. Sharif’s exclusive NRO (known as Jeddah deal for Sharif’s of Jeddah)
Musharraf dropped all allegations, cases and investigations against him and his
family and they were never opened during his tenure. Nation needs a thorough
investigation into these allegations on the lines of allegations against Prime
Minister Benazir Bhutto and President Zardari and trial of all cases against him
under international observers.

His foreign business interests and assets should
also be probed much the same way as has been done against President Zardari.
It’s a fair demand and I invite you all to support me on this.

PML-N senior leaders’ scandals

Seeking Definition

Seeking Definition

Seeking Definition

Origin:
bef. 900; (n.) ME; OE lufu, c. OFris luve, OHG
luba, Goth lub?; (v.) ME lov(i)en, OE lufian; c. OFris luvia, OHG lub?n to love,
L lub?re (later lib?re) to be pleasing; akin to..

Synonyms:
Devotion; worship; fancy; liking; passion;
romance; amour; fondness; loyalty…

Definition:
–noun:
A profoundly tender,
passionate affection for another person. a feeling of warm personal attachment
or deep affection; a person toward whom love is felt; beloved person;
sweetheart…

-verb:
To have love or affection
for. To have a profoundly tender, passionate affection for. To have a strong
liking for. Take great pleasure in. To need or require; benefit greatly from. To
embrace and kiss…
………………………………………………………………………………………

Ever since letters and words have been invented, people have been trying so
hard to identify what love is. Who knows? Maybe even before that invention..i
bet cavemen were extremely perplexed about that matter as well.

So, all through the ages and time, philosophers, theorists, thinkers,
writers, inventors, mathematicians, scientists, workers, ordinary men, fools,
politicians, young, old, girls, boys, simply ALL are seeking a definition, or a
description to that –still exactly unidentifiable- thing called love.

Walk down the street and ask people about what they think about it, and
you’ll get a million different replies..!

Love makes “la vie en rose” all year long!
mmmmm…okay
well actually love does not make “la vie en rose”, because in fact “la vie” is
dark in winter, glazing hot in summer, dusty in spring, and gloomy in autumn. So
if you see it that “pinkish” I recommend you go see a doctor because you might
be suffering from glaucoma.

Love makes you stronger!
Nope, love does not make you
stronger, but eating healthy and exercising do!

Love is sweet surrender!
Love is not a sweet surrender,
nor is it a sour one either, it has nothing to do with surrender, holding out,
defeat or winning..it’s plainly not a game.

Love makes the world a better place! (sometimes stated: Love can heal
the world)

Global warming, ozone layer depletion, erosion, WWI,
WWII, the Arab-Israeli conflict, Somali famines, civil wars, HIV, Swine Flu,
Caligula, Hitler, The French revolution, crusades, massacres,….the world has
never been and will never be a better place just because of love!

Love is heaven!
For god’s sake! No one has ever returned
from the after life and started telling tales about it! How could you know for
sure?!
………………………………………………………………………………………

And responses go on like that forever!

………………………………………………………………………………………

Some might think I’m such a pessimist, or that my comments are annoying, or
perhaps even pedantic, but that’s not the case at all, I’m just another digit of
the figure searching and excavating for a convincing, fulfilling
explanation.

I went through all of these states and found out that you cannot depict life
all blooming and picturesque because the second you realize that it has many
faces, and that it actually stared at you with one of her ugliest ones, you’ll
hate love that made you dwell in such an unrealistic “color”.

You don’t need love, hate, success, failure, money, fame, or anything to make
you feel stronger, it comes from within..as for weakness or surrender, I believe
we are only as weak as we allow ourselves to be.

Love does not make you wake up every morning all merry and thinking that
life’s a better place, because the echo of the anchor man on the TV declaring
the death of war victims had reached 5198716870871 child and 5486197435 women
would still be echoing in your head.

Seasons would change, you’ll get strong one day only to get weaker on the
other, and you will wake up to find that the world’s still shitty, life remains
an unfair b*tch, war hasn’t ended, there’s a new epidemic outbreak, someone
accidently removed your toothbrush cap, and you won’t be getting a present from
Santa Claus this year just because you’re a grown up now!

But LOVE is the only thing that makes it all embraceable and
bearable! Love is the magic that makes you 100% realistic..and loving it!

Love is when you become realistically unable to picture your life tomorrow..a
week after..or a hundred years later without the one you love!

Love is when you realistically believe that your partner will find the
formula and the chemical reaction that would make you both dissolve into each
other.

Love is when you realistically no longer care if you look dumb or goofy in
front of people as long as it puts a smile upon your partner’s face.

Love is when you realistically like the idea of not having a penny in your
pocket and realistically enjoy a simple walk, on condition that you feel your
partner’s hand squeezing yours.

Love is waking up realistically knowing that life’s not any better, but you
still have a smile on your face!

Love is when you realistically enjoy sharing an ice-cream scoop with your
partner, only to laugh your heart out after you both confess the truth about its
horrible taste!

Love is when you realistically can’t remember any good memory that doesn’t
involve your partner.

Love is when you realistically –and unbelievably- save your French fries side
dish for your partner to have.

Love is when you realistically miss your partner while you’re sitting next to
them.

Love is when you realistically call everybody by your partner’s name.

Love is when you realistically get butterflies in your stomach when see your
partner..for the 48135753068754th time in your life!

Love is when you realistically still blush and get goosebumps whenever your
partner whispers “I love you” in your ear.

Love is when you realistically know for sure that your existence is totally
related to that of your partner’s!

Love is when you realistically ultimately believe that your partner is the
truest human being on earth!!
………………………………………………………………………………………

I’m not a writer, nor am I even trying to be. I’m not a philosopher, nor am I
even pretending to be.
………………………………………………………………………………………

I’m just another truth seeker, who happens to be madly and
realistically..in love!

Soar with the Eagles

Soar with the Eagles

Did you know that an eagle knows when the storm is approaching long before it breaks ?

The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come.

When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm.

While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle doesn't escape the storm; it simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon us—and all of us will experience them—it may not be easy but we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief in God.

The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them. God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives.

Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, but rather, how we handle them.

Unsaid Words
